Together we've had a lot of victories! We helped get the $60 million Early Learning Challenge grant into our state, we helped pass legislation that developed a groundbreaking kindergarten readiness program, paved the way for access to universal preschool, and this year we passed two bills that strive to improve access to high-quality child care and early learning programs.
Yet all these victories could be undermined in the final weeks of this special session if these important programs are not funded. There are some terrible proposals being tossed around right now that would put the remainder of our $60 million grant at risk and place working families in jeopardy by:
Cutting families from the affordable child care program, Working Connections Child Care
Reducing supports for family, friend, and neighbor caregivers
Eliminating funding for Child Care Aware of Washington, our state's only high-quality child care resource and training program
Remind our leaders that Washington State is up to the challenge and that all of our children deserve a great start, by signing on to our statement above.
